  1. so that ye are not behind in any gift, waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ,

  7. The signs, indeed, of the apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds,

  8. for we by the Spirit, by faith, a hope of righteousness do wait for,

  9. and in the doing good we may not be faint-hearted, for at the proper time we shall reap--not desponding;

  10. Call upon you, then, do I--the prisoner of the Lord--to walk worthily of the calling with which ye were called,

  11. with all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, forbearing one another in love,

  12. to your walking worthily of the Lord to all pleasing, in every good work being fruitful, and increasing to the knowledge of God,

  13. in all might being made mighty according to the power of His glory, to all endurance and long-suffering with joy.

  14. Put on, therefore, as choice ones of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humble-mindedness, meekness, long-suffering,

  15. forbearing one another, and forgiving each other, if any one with any one may have a quarrel, as also the Christ did forgive you--so also ye;

  16. unceasingly remembering of you the work of the faith, and the labour of the love, and the endurance of the hope, of our Lord Jesus Christ, in the presence of our God and Father,

  17. and we exhort you, brethren, admonish the disorderly, comfort the feeble-minded, support the infirm, be patient unto all;

  18. so that we ourselves do glory in you in the assemblies of God, for your endurance and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye bear;

  19. and the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God, and to the endurance of the Christ.

  20. it behoveth, therefore, the overseer to be blameless, of one wife a husband, vigilant, sober, decent, a friend of strangers, apt to teach,

  21. not given to wine, not a striker, not given to filthy lucre, but gentle, not contentious, not a lover of money,

  22. and thou, O man of God, these things flee, and pursue righteousness, piety, faith, love, endurance, meekness;

  23. and a servant of the Lord it behoveth not to strive, but to be gentle unto all, apt to teach, patient under evil,

  24. in meekness instructing those opposing--if perhaps God may give to them repentance to an acknowledging of the truth,
