  1. After these things the LORD’s word came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Don’t be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”

  2. Abraham drew near, and said, “Will you consume the righteous with the wicked?

  3. What if there are fifty righteous within the city? Will you consume and not spare the place for the fifty righteous who are in it?

  4. Be it far from you to do things like that, to kill the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be like the wicked. May that be far from you. Shouldn’t the Judge of all the earth do right?”

  5. The LORD said, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sake.”

  6. Abraham answered, “See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord, who am but dust and ashes.

  7. What if there will lack five of the fifty righteous? Will you destroy all the city for lack of five?” He said, “I will not destroy it, if I find forty-five there.”

  8. He spoke to him yet again, and said, “What if there are forty found there?” He said, “I will not do it for the forty’s sake.”

  9. He said, “Oh don’t let the Lord be angry, and I will speak. What if there are thirty found there?” He said, “I will not do it, if I find thirty there.”

  10. He said, “See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord. What if there are twenty found there?” He said, “I will not destroy it for the twenty’s sake.”

  11. He said, “Oh don’t let the Lord be angry, and I will speak just once more. What if ten are found there?” He said, “I will not destroy it for the ten’s sake.”

  12. The LORD went his way, as soon as he had finished communing with Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.

  13. Is this the way you repay the LORD, foolish and unwise people? Isn’t he your father who has bought you? He has made you and established you.

  14. and he said, “The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, even mine;

  15. God, my rock, in him I will take refuge; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge. My savior, you save me from violence.

  16. Didn’t you, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and give it to the seed of Abraham your friend forever?

  17. “You came down also on Mount Sinai, and spoke with them from heaven, and gave them right ordinances and true laws, good statutes and commandments,

  18. and made known to them your holy Sabbath, and commanded them commandments, and statutes, and a law, by Moses your servant,

  19. In famine he will redeem you from death; in war, from the power of the sword.

  20. For you shall be allied with the stones of the field. The animals of the field shall be at peace with you.

  21. But you, LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, and the one who lifts up my head.

  22. Listen to the voice of my cry, my King and my God; for to you do I pray.

  23. The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower.

  24. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, LORD, my rock, and my redeemer.

  25. The LORD is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid?
