  1. Blessed is the man who doesn’t walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand on the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers;

  2. but his delight is in the LORD’s law. On his Torah he meditates day and night.

  3. He will be like a tree planted by the streams of water, that produces its fruit in its season, whose leaf also does not wither. Whatever he does shall prosper.

  15. “Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

  16. Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

  17. But I tell you, don’t resist him who is evil; but whoever strikes you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.

  18. If anyone sues you to take away your coat, let him have your cloak also.

  19. Whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.

  20. Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God.

  21. Therefore he who resists the authority, withstands the ordinance of God; and those who withstand will receive to themselves judgment.

  22. For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. Do you desire to have no fear of the authority? Do that which is good, and you will have praise from the same,

  23. for he is a servant of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid, for he doesn’t bear the sword in vain; for he is a servant of God, an avenger for wrath to him who does evil.

  24. Therefore you need to be in subjection, not only because of the wrath, but also for conscience’ sake.

  25. For this reason you also pay taxes, for they are servants of God’s service, attending continually on this very thing.
