  1. And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:

  2. But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.

  3. And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.

  4. It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.

  9. Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

  10. And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.

  11. Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

  12. ¶ Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

  13. But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.

  14. Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.

  15. By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter;

  16. Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

  17. Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.

  18. I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.

  19. I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

  20. Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

  21. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

  22. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
