  1. And Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD, and all the judgments: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the LORD hath said will we do.

  2. And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD, and rose up early in the morning, and builded an altar under the hill, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel.

  3. And he sent young men of the children of Israel, which offered burnt offerings, and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen unto the LORD.

  8. And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou speak unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins.

  9. And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father hath chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

  10. So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me again the third day.

  11. And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the old men's counsel that they gave him;

  12. And spake to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke: my father also chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

  13. Wherefore the king hearkened not unto the people; for the cause was from the LORD, that he might perform his saying, which the LORD spake by Ahijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

  14. But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.

  15. ¶ BETH. Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.

  16. Both young men, and maidens; old men, and children:

  17. Let them praise the name of the LORD: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven.

  18. ¶ The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;

  19. To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;

  20. To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;

  21. To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

  22. A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

  23. To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

  24. ¶ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

  25. My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
