  1. And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.

  2. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;

  3. And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

  4. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

  5. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

  6. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

  7. Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

  8. And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.

  9. And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!

  10. For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

  11. And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved?

  12. Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

  13. That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;

  14. Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

  15. Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:

  16. But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

  17. For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

  18. ¶ Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

  19. Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.

  20. Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.
