  1. Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles:

  2. And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.

  3. And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;

  4. (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

  5. ¶ Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.

  6. For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on:

  7. And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.

  8. Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.

  9. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

  10. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

  11. This he said, signifying what death he should die.

  12. The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?

  13. I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.

  14. Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.

  15. Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.

  16. They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.

  17. After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.

  18. Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.

  19. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

  20. Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come:

  21. That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.

  22. ¶ For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

  23. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

  24. But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;

  25. But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
