  1. Thy tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

  2. Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.

  3. Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off: him that hath an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer.

  11. ¶ An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.

  12. ¶ There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.

  13. A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.

  14. ¶ He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.

  15. ¶ The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

  16. ¶ A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.

  17. ¶ The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.

  18. ¶ Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.

  19. The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

  20. Surely the serpent will bite without enchantment; and a babbler is no better.

  21. The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness: and the end of his talk is mischievous madness.

  22. They are all grievous revolters, walking with slanders: they are brass and iron; they are all corrupters.

  23. Take ye heed every one of his neighbour, and trust ye not in any brother: for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbour will walk with slanders.

  24. For I heard the defaming of many, fear on every side. Report, say they, and we will report it. All my familiars watched for my halting, saying, Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.

  25. Therefore the princes said unto the king, We beseech thee, let this man be put to death: for thus he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them: for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt.
