  1. But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none;

  2. And they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not;

  3. And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.

  4. But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:

  5. But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.

  6. There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

  7. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

  8. Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.

  9. ¶ Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

  10. ¶ We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;

  11. Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;

  12. Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.

  13. We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;

  14. For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

  15. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

  16. While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

  17. For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

  18. For I know the forwardness of your mind, for which I boast of you to them of Macedonia, that Achaia was ready a year ago; and your zeal hath provoked very many.

  19. But it is good to be zealously affected always in a good thing, and not only when I am present with you.

  20. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

  21. See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

  22. Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

  23. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

  24. And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

  25. Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
