  1. And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,

  2. And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.

  3. Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

  4. And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.

  5. This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.

  6. I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

  7. Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.

  8. Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.

  9. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

  10. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

  11. ¶ Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye.

  12. Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

  13. As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

  14. For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.

  15. ¶ For as touching the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you:

  16. For I know the forwardness of your mind, for which I boast of you to them of Macedonia, that Achaia was ready a year ago; and your zeal hath provoked very many.

  17. Yet have I sent the brethren, lest our boasting of you should be in vain in this behalf; that, as I said, ye may be ready:

  18. Lest haply if they of Macedonia come with me, and find you unprepared, we (that we say not, ye) should be ashamed in this same confident boasting.

  19. Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren, that they would go before unto you, and make up beforehand your bounty, whereof ye had notice before, that the same might be ready, as a matter of bounty, and not as of covetousness.

  20. ¶ But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

  21. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

  22. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

  23. (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.

  24. Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)

  25. Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God.
