¶ To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.
The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.
The LORD will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness.
Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.
Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.
Because that he remembered not to shew mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart.
Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.
A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion.
He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honour.
¶ The rich man's wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.
¶ There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.
¶ The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.
¶ Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.
¶ The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends.
¶ He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.
¶ He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.
¶ The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.
¶ Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.
¶ Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour.
All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.
¶ He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
¶ The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.
¶ Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.
¶ Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.
¶ The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all.
