  1. For the LORD heareth the poor, and despiseth not his prisoners.

  17. Thou hast made his glory to cease, and cast his throne down to the ground.

  18. The days of his youth hast thou shortened: thou hast covered him with shame. Selah.

  19. ¶ For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled.

  20. Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil.

  21. ¶ Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O LORD, and teachest him out of thy law;

  22. That thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit be digged for the wicked.

  23. Unless the LORD had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.

  24. When I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O LORD, held me up.

  25. In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.
