  1. Moses came; and calling together the elders of the people, he declared all the words which the Lord had commanded.

  2. And the Lord spoke all these words:

  3. And Moses wrote all the words of the Lord: and rising in the morning, he built an altar at the foot of the mount, and twelve titles according to the twelve tribes of Israel.

  4. And the Lord said to Moses: Come up to me into the mount, and be there; and I will give thee tables of stone, and the law, and the commandments which I have written; that thou mayest teach them.

  5. In which thou shalt put the testimony that I will give thee.

  6. And the Lord, when he had ended these words in Mount Sinai, gave to Moses two stone tables of testimony, written with the finger of God.

  7. And made by the work of God; the writing also of God was graven in the tables.

  9. And all the children of Israel came to him: and he gave them in commandment all that he had heard of the Lord on Mount Sinai.

  10. These are the statutes and judgments and laws, which the LORD made between him and the children of Israel in mount Sinai by the hand of Moses.

  11. You shall not add to the word that I speak to you, neither shall you take away from it: keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.

  12. You know that I have taught you statutes and justices, as the Lord my God hath commanded me: so shall you do them in the land which you shall possess:

  13. And he commanded me at that time that I should teach you the ceremonies and judgments which you shall do in the land, that you shall possess.

  14. And thou shalt write them in the entry, and on the doors of thy house.

  15. Lay up these words in your hearts and minds, and hang them for a sign on your hands, and place them between your eyes.

  16. Thou shalt write them upon the posts and the doors of thy house:

  17. What I command thee, that only do thou to the Lord: neither add any thing, nor diminish.

  18. Now therefore write you this canticle, and teach the children of Israel: that they may know it by heart, and sing it by mouth, and this song may be unto me for a testimony among the children of Israel.

  19. Moses therefore wrote the canticle, and taught it to the children of Israel.

  20. And the Lord testified to them in Israel, and in Juda, by the hand of all the prophets and seers, saying: Return from your wicked ways, and keep my precepts, and ceremonies, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers: and as I have sent to you in the hand of my servants the prophets.

  21. And Saphan, the scribe, came to the king, and brought him word again concerning that which he had commanded, and said: Thy servants have gathered together the money that was found in the house of the Lord: and they have given it to be distributed to the workmen, by the overseers of the works of the temple of the Lord.

  22. And Saphan, the scribe, told the king, saying: Helcias, the priest, hath delivered to me a book. And when Saphan had read it before the king,

  23. And the king had heard the words of the law of the Lord, he rent his garments.

  24. And he commanded Helcias, the priest, and Ahicam, the son of Saphan, and Achobor, the son of Micha, and Saphan, the scribe, and Asaia, the king's servant, saying:

  25. Go and consult the Lord for me, and for the people, and for all Juda, concerning the words of this book which is found: for the great wrath of the Lord is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened to the words of this book, to do all that is written for us.
