  1. And one answered another, saying: And who is their father? therefore it became a proverb: Is Saul also among the prophets?

  13. In those days they shall say no more: The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the teeth of the children are set on edge.

  14. Son of man, what is this proverb that you have in the land of Israel? saying: The days shall be prolonged, and every vision shall fail.

  15. Say to them therefore: Thus saith the Lord God: I will make this proverb to cease, neither shall it be any more a common saying in Israel: and tell them that the days are at hand, and the effect of every vision.

  16. Behold every one that useth a common proverb, shall use this against thee, saying: As the mother was, so also is her daughter.

  17. That you use among you this parable as a proverb in the land of Israel, saying: The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the teeth of the children are set on edge.

  18. As I live, saith the Lord God, this parable shall be no more to you a proverb in Israel.

  21. Either make the tree good and its fruit good: or make the tree evil, and its fruit evil. For by the fruit the tree is known.

  22. And he said to them: Doubtless you will say to me this similitude: Physician, heal thyself. As great things as we have heard done in Capharnaum, do also here in thy own country.

  23. For every tree is known by its fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns: nor from a bramble bush do they gather the grape.

  24. Salt is good. But if the salt shall lose its savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?

  25. And Nathanael said to him: Can any thing of good come from Nazareth? Philip saith to him: Come and see.
