  1. And the Lord shall give up Israel for the sins of Jeroboam, who hath sinned, and made Israel to sin.

  2. And they walked according to the way of the nations which the Lord had destroyed in the sight of the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel: because they had done in like manner.

  3. And the children of Israel offended the Lord, their God, with things that were not right: and built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.

  8. And the princes of Israel, and the king, being in a consternation, said: The Lord is just.

  9. And when the Lord saw that they were humbled, the word of the Lord came to Semeias, saying: Because they are humbled, I will not destroy them, and I will give them a little help, and my wrath shall not fall upon Jerusalem by the hand of Sesac.

  10. Moreover he built also high places in the cities of Juda, and he made the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, and Juda to transgress.

  12. But hast walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and hast made Juda and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, imitating the fornication of the house of Achab, moreover also thou hast killed thy brethren, the house of thy father, better men than thyself,

  13. But after they had rest, they returned to do evil in thy sight: and thou leftest them in the hand of their enemies, and they had dominion over them. Then they returned, and cried to thee: and thou heardest from heaven, and deliveredst them many times in thy mercies.

  14. And he blessed them, and they were multiplied exceedingly: and their cattle he suffered not to decrease.

  15. Who is wise, and will keep these things; and will understand the mercies of the Lord?

  16. Nevertheless he regarded their affliction, when he heard their cry:

  17. And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies.

  18. He made them also to be pitied of all those that carried them captives.

  19. ¶ Rivers of waters run down mine eyes, because they keep not thy law.

  20. Justice exalteth a nation: but sin maketh nations miserable.

  21. A prince that gladly heareth lying words, hath all his servants wicked.

  22. Hear, O ye heavens, and give ear, O earth, for the Lord hath spoken. I have brought up children, and exalted them: but they have despised me.

  23. The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master's crib: but Israel hath not known me, and my people hath not understood.

  24. Woe to the sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a wicked seed, ungracious children: they have forsaken the Lord, they have blasphemed the Holy One of Israel, they are gone away backwards.

  25. For what shall I strike you any more, you that increase transgression? the whole head is sick, and the whole heart is sad.
