  1. And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown, and as soon as they have heard, immediately Satan cometh and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

  2. And these likewise are they that are sown on the stony ground: who when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with joy.

  3. And they have no root in themselves, but are only for a time: and then when tribulation and persecution ariseth for the word they are presently scandalized.

  4. And others there are who are sown among thorns: these are they that hear the word,

  5. And the cares of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts after other things entering in choke the word, and it is made fruitless.

  6. Now they upon the rock are they who when they hear receive the word with joy: and these have no roots: for they believe for a while and in time of temptation they fall away.

  7. And that which fell among thorns are they who have heard and, going their way, are choked with the cares and riches and pleasures of this life and yield no fruit.

  8. And it came to pass, as they walked in the way, that a certain man said to him: I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.

  9. Jesus said to him: The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air nests: but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

  10. But he said to another: Follow me. And he said: Lord, suffer me first to go and to bury my father.

  11. And Jesus said to him: Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.

  12. And another said: I will follow thee, Lord; but let me first take my leave of them that are at my house.

  13. Jesus said to him: No man putting his hand to the plough and looking back is fit for the kingdom of God.

  14. But now, after that you have known God, or rather are known by God: how turn you again to the weak and needy elements which you desire to serve again?

  15. You observe days and months and times, and years.

  16. I am afraid of you, lest perhaps I have laboured in vain among you.

  17. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea, which is moved and carried about by the wind.

  18. Therefore let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

  19. A double minded man is inconstant in all his ways.

  20. I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot. I would thou wert cold or hot.

  21. But because thou art lukewarm and neither cold nor hot, I will begin to vomit thee out of my mouth.
