  1. For behold thou hast loved truth: the uncertain and hidden things of thy wisdom thou hast made manifest to me.

  2. Thou shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be cleansed: thou shalt wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow.

  3. To my hearing thou shalt give joy and gladness: and the bones that have been humbled shall rejoice.

  4. Turn away thy face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.

  11. ¶ I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.

  12. This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs.

  13. To what purpose do you offer me the multitude of your victims, saith the Lord? I am full, I desire not holocausts of rams, and fat of fatlings, and blood of calves, and lambs, and buck goats.

  14. When you came to appear before me, who required these things at your hands, that you should walk in my courts?

  15. Offer sacrifice no more in vain: incense is an abomination to me. The new moons, and the sabbaths and other festivals I will not abide, your assemblies are wicked.

  16. My soul hateth your new moons, and your solemnities: they are become troublesome to me, I am weary of bearing them.

  17. And when you stretch forth your hands, I will turn away my eyes from you: and when you multiply prayer, I will not hear: for your hands are full of blood.

  18. And the Lord said: Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips glorify me, but their heart is far from me, and they have feared me with the commandment and doctrines of men:

  19. Therefore behold I will proceed to cause an admiration in this people, by a great and wonderful miracle: for wisdom shall perish from their wise men, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.

  20. Woe to you that are deep of heart, to hide your counsel from the Lord: and their works are in the dark, and they say: Who seeth us, and who knoweth us?

  21. This thought of yours is perverse: as if the clay should think against the potter, and the work should say to the maker thereof: Thou madest me not: or the thing framed should say to him that fashioned it: Thou understandest not.

  22. I hate, and have rejected your festivities: and I will not receive the odour of your assemblies.

  23. And if you offer me holocausts, and your gifts, I will not receive them: neither will I regard the vows of your fat beasts.

  24. Take away from me the tumult of thy songs: and I will not hear the canticles of thy harp.

  25. What shall I offer to the Lord that is worthy? wherewith shall I kneel before the high God? shall I offer holocausts unto him, and calves of a year old?
