  1. Get up, go downstairs, and have no misgivings about going with them, because I myself have sent them.”

  2. Kefa was still saying these things when the Ruach HaKodesh fell on all who were hearing the message.

  3. All the believers from the Circumcision faction who had accompanied Kefa were amazed that the gift of the Ruach HaKodesh was also being poured out

  4. on the Goyim, for they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Kefa’s response was,

  5. “Is anyone prepared to prohibit these people from being immersed in water? After all, they have received the Ruach HaKodesh, just as we did.”

  6. “But I had hardly begun speaking when the Ruach HaKodesh fell on them, just as on us at the beginning!

  7. And I remembered that the Lord had said, ‘Yochanan used to immerse people in water, but you will be immersed in the Ruach HaKodesh.’

  8. Therefore, if God gave them the same gift as he gave us after we had come to put our trust in the Lord Yeshua the Messiah, who was I to stand in God’s way?”

  9. They traveled through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, because they had been prevented by the Ruach HaKodesh from speaking the message in the province of Asia.

  10. When they came to the frontier of Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia; but the Spirit of Yeshua would not let them.

  11. He asked them, “Did you receive the Ruach HaKodesh when you came to trust?” “No,” they said to him, “we have never even heard that there is such a thing as the Ruach HaKodesh.”

  12. “In that case,” he said, “into what were you immersed?” “The immersion of Yochanan,” they answered.

  13. Sha’ul said, “Yochanan practiced an immersion in connection with turning from sin to God; but he told the people to put their trust in the one who would come after him, that is, in Yeshua.”

  14. On hearing this, they were immersed into the name of the Lord Yeshua;

  15. and when Sha’ul placed his hands on them, the Ruach HaKodesh came upon them; so that they began speaking in tongues and prophesying.

  16. But not only that, let us also boast in our troubles; because we know that trouble produces endurance,

  17. endurance produces character, and character produces hope;

  18. and this hope does not let us down, because God’s love for us has already been poured out in our hearts through the Ruach HaKodesh who has been given to us.

  19. Therefore, there is no longer any condemnation awaiting those who are in union with the Messiah Yeshua.

  20. Why? Because the Torah of the Spirit, which produces this life in union with Messiah Yeshua, has set me free from the “Torah” of sin and death.

  21. For what the Torah could not do by itself, because it lacked the power to make the old nature cooperate, God did by sending his own Son as a human being with a nature like our own sinful one [but without sin]. God did this in order to deal with sin, and in so doing he executed the punishment against sin in human nature,

  22. so that the just requirement of the Torah might be fulfilled in us who do not run our lives according to what our old nature wants but according to what the Spirit wants.

  23. For those who identify with their old nature set their minds on the things of the old nature, but those who identify with the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.

  24. Having one’s mind controlled by the old nature is death, but having one’s mind controlled by the Spirit is life and shalom.

  25. For the mind controlled by the old nature is hostile to God, because it does not submit itself to God’s Torah — indeed, it cannot.
