“He answered, ‘Then, father, I beg you to send him to my father’s house,

where I have five brothers, to warn them; so that they may be spared having to come to this place of torment too.’

Yeshua said to them, “In this age, men and women marry;

but those judged worthy of the age to come, and of resurrection from the dead, do not get married,

because they can no longer die. Being children of the Resurrection, they are like angels; indeed, they are children of God.

“But even Moshe showed that the dead are raised; for in the passage about the bush, he calls Adonai ‘the God of Avraham, the God of Yitz’chak and the God of Ya‘akov.’

Now he is not God of the dead, but of the living — to him all are alive.”

One of the criminals hanging there hurled insults at him. “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”

But the other one spoke up and rebuked the first, saying, “Have you no fear of God? You’re getting the same punishment as he is.

Ours is only fair; we’re getting what we deserve for what we did. But this man did nothing wrong.”

Then he said, “Yeshua, remember me when you come as King.”

Yeshua said to him, “Yes! I promise that you will be with me today in Gan-‘Eden.”

Then Kefa said, “Why has the Adversary so filled your heart that you lie to the Ruach HaKodesh and keep back some of the money you received for the land?

Before you sold it, the property was yours; and after you sold it, the money was yours to use as you pleased. So what made you decide to do such a thing? You have lied not to human beings but to God!”

On hearing these words, Hananyah fell down dead; and everyone who heard about it was terrified.

The young men got up, wrapped his body in a shroud, carried him out and buried him.

Some three hours later, his wife came in, unaware of what had happened.

Kefa challenged her: “Tell me, is it true that you sold the land for such-and-such a price?” “Yes,” she answered, “that is what we were paid for it.”

But Kefa came back at her, “Then why did you people plot to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The men who buried your husband are at the door. They will carry you out too!”

Instantly she collapsed at his feet and died. The young men entered, found her there dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband.

Heaven forbid! How can we, who have died to sin, still live in it?

Don’t you know that those of us who have been immersed into the Messiah Yeshua have been immersed into his death?

Through immersion into his death we were buried with him; so that just as, through the glory of the Father, the Messiah was raised from the dead, likewise we too might live a new life.

For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will also be united with him in a resurrection like his.

We know that our old self was put to death on the execution-stake with him, so that the entire body of our sinful propensities might be destroyed, and we might no longer be enslaved to sin.
