  1. ‘Then I beg you, father,’ he said, ‘send Lazarus to my father’s house,

  2. for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also end up in this place of torment.’

  4. But those who are considered worthy to share in the age to come and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage.

  8. One of the criminals who hung there heaped abuse on Him. “Are You not the Christ?” he said. “Save Yourself and us!”

  9. But the other one rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same judgment?

  10. We are punished justly, for we are receiving what our actions deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”

  11. Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when You come into Your kingdom!”

  12. And Jesus said to him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”

  13. Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and withhold some of the proceeds from the land?

  14. Did it not belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? How could you conceive such a deed in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God!”

  15. On hearing these words, Ananias fell down and died. And great fear came over all who heard what had happened.

  16. Then the young men stepped forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him.

  17. About three hours later his wife also came in, unaware of what had happened.

  18. “Tell me,” said Peter, “is this the price you and your husband got for the land?” “Yes,” she answered, “that is the price.”

  19. “How could you agree to test the Spirit of the Lord?” Peter replied. “Look, the feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.”

  20. At that instant she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband.

  21. Certainly not! How can we who died to sin live in it any longer?

  22. Or aren’t you aware that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?

  23. We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may walk in newness of life.

  24. For if we have been united with Him like this in His death, we will certainly also be united with Him in His resurrection.

  25. We know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body of sin might be rendered powerless, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.
