  1. “How can I be sure of this?” Zechariah asked the angel. “I am an old man, and my wife is well along in years.”

  2. “I am Gabriel,” replied the angel. “I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news.

  3. And now you will be silent and unable to speak until the day this comes to pass, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled at their proper time.”

  4. Meanwhile, the people were waiting for Zechariah and wondering why he took so long in the temple.

  5. When he came out and was unable to speak to them, they realized he had seen a vision in the temple. He kept making signs to them but remained speechless.

  9. Suddenly two men, Moses and Elijah, began talking with Jesus.

  10. They appeared in glory and spoke about His departure, which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.

  11. Meanwhile Peter and his companions were overcome by sleep, but when they awoke, they saw Jesus’ glory and the two men standing with Him.

  12. As Moses and Elijah were leaving, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” (He did not know what he was saying.)

  13. While Peter was speaking, a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.

  14. And a voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is My Son, whom I have chosen. Listen to Him!”

  15. After the voice had spoken, only Jesus was present with them. The disciples kept this to themselves, and in those days they did not tell anyone what they had seen.

  16. Then John testified, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove and resting on Him.

  17. I myself did not know Him, but the One who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit descend and rest is He who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’

  18. I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”

  19. Suddenly a sound like a mighty rushing wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.

  20. They saw tongues like flames of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.

  21. ‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out My Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.

  22. But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked intently into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.

  23. “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”

  24. In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord spoke to him in a vision, “Ananias!” “Here I am, Lord,” he answered.

  25. “Get up!” the Lord told him. “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying.
