  1. Are not the Abanah and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not have washed in them and been cleansed?” So he turned and went away in a rage.

  2. Naaman’s servants, however, approached him and said, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, ‘Wash and be cleansed’?”

  3. So Naaman went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, according to the word of the man of God, and his flesh was restored and became like that of a little child, and he was clean.

  5. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

  6. “Ah, Lord GOD,” I said, “I surely do not know how to speak, for I am only a child!”

  7. But the LORD told me: “Do not say, ‘I am only a child.’ For to everyone I send you, you must go, and all that I command you, you must speak.

  8. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you,” declares the LORD.

  9. Then the LORD reached out His hand, touched my mouth, and said to me: “Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.

  10. See, I have appointed you today over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and plant.”

  11. Then He said to another man, “Follow Me.” The man replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”

  12. But Jesus told him, “Let the dead bury their own dead. You, however, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”

  13. Still another said, “I will follow You, Lord; but first let me bid farewell to my family.”

  14. Then Jesus declared, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and then looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”

  15. But one after another they all began to make excuses. The first one said, ‘I have bought a field, and I need to go see it. Please excuse me.’

  16. Another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to try them out. Please excuse me.’

  17. Still another said, ‘I have married a wife, so I cannot come.’
