  1. The Child’s father and mother were amazed at what was spoken about Him.

  11. Finally, after three days they found Him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.

  12. And all who heard Him were astounded at His understanding and His answers.

  13. When His parents saw Him, they were astonished. “Child, why have You done this to us?” His mother asked. “Your father and I have been anxiously searching for You.”

  14. “Why were you looking for Me?” He asked. “Did you not know that I had to be in My Father’s house?”

  15. But they did not understand the statement He was making to them.

  16. Then He went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But His mother treasured up all these things in her heart.

  17. And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.

  18. as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: “A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for Him.

  19. The people were waiting expectantly and were all wondering in their hearts if John could be the Christ.

  20. John answered all of them: “I baptize you with water, but One more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

  21. His winnowing fork is in His hand to clear His threshing floor and to gather the wheat into His barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

  22. When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as He was praying, heaven was opened,

  23. and the Holy Spirit descended on Him in a bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”
