  12. I desire therefore that the men pray in every place, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and disputing.

  13. The bishop therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, orderly, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

  14. no brawler, no striker; but gentle, not contentious, no lover of money;

  15. If any man teacheth a different doctrine, and consenteth not to sound words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;

  16. he is puffed up, knowing nothing, but doting about questionings and disputes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

  17. wranglings of men corrupted in mind and bereft of the truth, supposing that godliness is a way of gain.

  18. O Timothy, guard that which is committed unto thee, turning away from the profane babblings and oppositions of the knowledge which is falsely so called;

  19. which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with you.

  20. Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them in the sight of the Lord, that they strive not about words, to no profit, to the subverting of them that hear.

  21. But foolish and ignorant questionings refuse, knowing that they gender strifes.

  22. And the Lord’s servant must not strive, but be gentle towards all, apt to teach, forbearing,

  23. in meekness correcting them that oppose themselves; if peradventure God may give them repentance unto the knowledge of the truth,

  24. Put them in mind to be in subjection to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready unto every good work,

  25. to speak evil of no man, not to be contentious, to be gentle, showing all meekness toward all men.
