  1. Wherefore I sware in my wrath, That they should not enter into my rest.

  2. The covenantwhich he made with Abraham, And his oath unto Isaac,

  3. Jehovah hath sworn unto David in truth; He will not turn from it: Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.

  4. I counsel thee, Keep the king’s command, and that in regard of the oath of God.

  5. Jehovah of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely, as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand:

  8. and thou shalt swear, As Jehovah liveth, in truth, in justice, and in righteousness; and the nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.

  9. And though they say, As Jehovah liveth; surely they swear falsely.

  10. How can I pardon thee? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods. When I had fed them to the full, they committed adultery, and assembled themselves in troops at the harlots’ houses;

  11. Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.

  12. Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods that ye have not known,

  13. that I may establish the oath which I sware unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as at this day. Then answered I, and said, Amen, O Jehovah.

  14. And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, As Jehovah liveth; even as they taught my people to swear by Baal; then shall they be built up in the midst of my people.

  15. But if ye will not hear these words, I swear by myself, saith Jehovah, that this house shall become a desolation.

  16. For I have sworn by myself, saith Jehovah, that Bozrah shall become an astonishment, a reproach, a waste, and a curse; and all the cities thereof shall be perpetual wastes.

  17. Jehovah of hosts hath sworn by himself, saying, Surely I will fill thee with men, as with the canker-worm; and they shall lift up a shout against thee.

  18. Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even turning aside, that they should not obey thy voice: therefore hath the curse been poured out upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God; for we have sinned against him.

  19. And I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and a half; and when they have made an end of breaking in pieces the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.

  20. Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Judah offend; and come not ye unto Gilgal, neither go ye up to Beth-aven, nor swear, As Jehovah liveth.

  21. Again, ye have heard that it was said to them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:

  22. but I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by the heaven, for it is the throne of God;

  23. nor by the earth, for it is the footstool of his feet; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.

  24. Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, for thou canst not make one hair white or black.

  25. But let your speech be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: and whatsoever is more than these is of the evil one.
