Bible Verses About The Second Temple
Key Bible Verses
“This is what the LORD of Hosts says: These people say, ‘The time hasn’t yet come, the time for the LORD’s house to be built.’”
Then the LORD’s word came by Haggai, the prophet, saying,
“Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies waste?
Now therefore this is what the LORD of Hosts says: Consider your ways.
You have sown much, and bring in little. You eat, but you don’t have enough. You drink, but you aren’t filled with drink. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm, and he who earns wages earns wages to put them into a bag with holes in it.”
Go up to the mountain, bring wood, and build the house. I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified,” says the LORD.
“You looked for much, and, behold, it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?” says the LORD of Hosts, “Because of my house that lies waste, while each of you is busy with his own house.
Therefore for your sake the heavens withhold the dew, and the earth withholds its fruit.
I called for a drought on the land, on the mountains, on the grain, on the new wine, on the oil, on that which the ground produces, on men, on livestock, and on all the labor of the hands.”
‘Who is left among you who saw this house in its former glory? How do you see it now? Isn’t it in your eyes as nothing?
and I will shake all nations. The precious things of all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory, says the LORD of Hosts.
The silver is mine, and the gold is mine,’ says the LORD of Hosts.
‘The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former,’ says the LORD of Hosts; ‘and in this place will I give peace,’ says the LORD of Hosts.”
Now, please consider from this day and backward, before a stone was laid on a stone in the LORD’s temple.
I struck you with blight, mildew, and hail in all the work of your hands; yet you didn’t turn to me,’ says the LORD.
Is the seed yet in the barn? Yes, the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree haven’t produced. From this day will I bless you.’”
I answered and spoke to the angel who talked with me, saying, “What are these, my lord?”
Then the angel who talked with me answered me, “Don’t you know what these are?” I said, “No, my lord.”
Then he answered and spoke to me, saying, “This is the LORD’s word to Zerubbabel, saying, ‘Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD of Hosts.
Who are you, great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you are a plain; and he will bring out the capstone with shouts of ‘Grace, grace, to it!’”
Moreover the LORD’s word came to me, saying,
“The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house. His hands shall also finish it; and you will know that the LORD of Hosts has sent me to you.
Indeed, who despises the day of small things? For these seven shall rejoice, and shall see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. These are the eyes of the LORD, which run back and forth through the whole earth.”
Thus says the LORD of Hosts: “Let your hands be strong, you who hear in these days these words from the mouth of the prophets who were in the day that the foundation of the house of the LORD of Hosts was laid, even the temple, that it might be built.
For before those days there was no wages for man, nor any wages for an animal; neither was there any peace to him who went out or came in, because of the adversary. For I set all men everyone against his neighbor.
