Bible Verses About The Jews: Often distinguished in war
Verses on Often distinguished in war
So Gideon, and the hundred men who were with him, came to the outermost part of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch, when they had but newly set the watch: and they blew the shofars, and broke in pieces the pitchers that were in their hands.
The three companies blew the shofars, and broke the pitchers, and held the torches in their left hands, and the shofars in their right hands with which to blow; and they shouted, “The sword of the LORD and of Gideon!”
They each stood in his place around the camp; and all the army ran; and they shouted, and put them to flight.
They blew the three hundred shofars, and the LORD set every man’s sword against his fellow, and against all the army; and the army fled as far as Beth Shittah toward Zererah, as far as the border of Abel Meholah, by Tabbath.
The men of Israel were gathered together out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued after Midian.
Jonathan said to the young man who bore his armor, “Come, and let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised. It may be that the LORD will work for us; for there is no restraint on the LORD to save by many or by few.”
His armor bearer said to him, “Do all that is in your heart. Turn and, behold, I am with you according to your heart.”
Then Jonathan said, “Behold, we will pass over to the men, and we will reveal ourselves to them.
If they say thus to us, ‘Wait until we come to you!’ then we will stand still in our place, and will not go up to them.
But if they say this, ‘Come up to us!’ then we will go up; for the LORD has delivered them into our hand. This shall be the sign to us.”
Both of them revealed themselves to the garrison of the Philistines: and the Philistines said, “Behold, the Hebrews are coming out of the holes where they had hidden themselves!”
The men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armor bearer, and said, “Come up to us, and we will show you something!” Jonathan said to his armor bearer, “Come up after me; for the LORD has delivered them into the hand of Israel.”
Jonathan climbed up on his hands and on his feet, and his armor bearer after him: and they fell before Jonathan; and his armor bearer killed them after him.
From that time forth, half of my servants worked in the work, and half of them held the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the coats of mail; and the rulers were behind all the house of Judah.
They all built the wall and those who bore burdens loaded themselves; everyone with one of his hands worked in the work, and with the other held his weapon;
and the builders, everyone wore his sword at his side, and so built. He who sounded the shofar was by me.
I said to the nobles, and to the rulers and to the rest of the people, “The work is great and large, and we are separated on the wall, one far from another.
Wherever you hear the sound of the shofar, rally there to us. Our God will fight for us.”
So we worked in the work: and half of them held the spears from the rising of the morning until the stars appeared.
Likewise at the same time said I to the people, “Let everyone with his servant lodge within Jerusalem, that in the night they may be a guard to us, and may labor in the day.”
