Key Bible Verses
The priests consented that they should take no more money from the people, neither repair the breaches of the house.
But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in its lid, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one comes into the LORD’s house: and the priests who kept the threshold put therein all the money that was brought into the LORD’s house.
It was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king’s scribe and the high priest came up, and they put up in bags and counted the money that was found in the LORD’s house.
They gave the money that was weighed out into the hands of those who did the work, who had the oversight of the LORD’s house: and they paid it out to the carpenters and the builders, who worked on the LORD’s house,
and to the masons and the stone cutters, and for buying timber and cut stone to repair the breaches of the LORD’s house, and for all that was laid out for the house to repair it.
But there were not made for the LORD’s house cups of silver, snuffers, basins, shofars, any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into the LORD’s house;
for they gave that to those who did the work, and repaired therewith the LORD’s house.
Moreover they didn’t demand an accounting from the men into whose hand they delivered the money to give to those who did the work; for they dealt faithfully.
The money for the trespass offerings, and the money for the sin offerings, was not brought into the LORD’s house: it was the priests’.
Menahem exacted the money of Israel, even of all the mighty men of wealth, of each man fifty shekels of silver, to give to the king of Assyria. So the king of Assyria turned back, and didn’t stay there in the land.
However there was no accounting made with them of the money that was delivered into their hand; for they dealt faithfully.”
Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, “Your servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of the workmen who have the oversight of the LORD’s house.”
but in the eighteenth year of king Josiah was this Passover kept to the LORD in Jerusalem.
Pharaoh Necoh put him in bonds at Riblah in the land of Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem; and put the land to a tribute of one hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold.
Jehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh; but he taxed the land to give the money according to the commandment of Pharaoh: he exacted the silver and the gold of the people of the land, of everyone according to his taxation, to give it to Pharaoh Necoh.
So David gave to Ornan six hundred shekels of gold by weight for the place.
He gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, “Go out to the cities of Judah, and gather money to repair the house of your God from all Israel from year to year. See that you expedite this matter.” However the Levites didn’t do it right away.
It was so, that whenever the chest was brought to the king’s officers by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king’s scribe and the chief priest’s officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to its place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.
When they had made an end, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, of which were made vessels for the LORD’s house, even vessels with which to minister and to offer, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. They offered burnt offerings in the LORD’s house continually all the days of Jehoiada.
They came to Hilkiah the high priest, and delivered the money that was brought into God’s house, which the Levites, the keepers of the threshold, had gathered of the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim, and of all the remnant of Israel, and of all Judah and Benjamin, and of the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
When they brought out the money that was brought into the LORD’s house, Hilkiah the priest found the book of the LORD’s law given by Moses.
They have emptied out the money that was found in the LORD’s house, and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers, and into the hand of the workmen.”
They also gave money to the masons, and to the carpenters. They also gave food, drink, and oil to the people of Sidon and Tyre, to bring cedar trees from Lebanon to the sea, to Joppa, according to the grant that they had from Cyrus King of Persia.
therefore you shall with all diligence buy with this money bulls, rams, lambs, with their meal offerings and their drink offerings, and shall offer them on the altar of the house of your God which is in Jerusalem.
and weighed to them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, even the offering for the house of our God, which the king, and his counselors, and his princes, and all Israel there present, had offered:
