  1. Behold, this have I found, saith the preacher, counting one by one, to find out the account:

  2. Which yet my soul seeketh, but I find not: one man among a thousand have I found; but a woman among all those have I not found.

  3. ¶ Moreover the LORD saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet:

  4. Therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the LORD will discover their secret parts.

  5. In that day the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments about their feet, and their cauls, and their round tires like the moon,

  6. The chains, and the bracelets, and the mufflers,

  7. The bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and the headbands, and the tablets, and the earrings,

  8. The rings, and nose jewels,

  9. The changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles, and the wimples, and the crisping pins,

  10. The glasses, and the fine linen, and the hoods, and the vails.

  11. And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty.

  12. ¶ And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach.

  13. In that day shall Egypt be like unto women: and it shall be afraid and fear because of the shaking of the hand of the LORD of hosts, which he shaketh over it.

  14. ¶ Rise up, ye women that are at ease; hear my voice, ye careless daughters; give ear unto my speech.

  15. Many days and years shall ye be troubled, ye careless women: for the vintage shall fail, the gathering shall not come.

  16. Tremble, ye women that are at ease; be troubled, ye careless ones: strip you, and make you bare, and gird sackcloth upon your loins.

  17. They shall lament for the teats, for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine.

  18. Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.

  19. Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number.

  20. The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.

  21. Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.

  22. A sword is upon their horses, and upon their chariots, and upon all the mingled people that are in the midst of her; and they shall become as women: a sword is upon her treasures; and they shall be robbed.

  23. The mighty men of Babylon have forborn to fight, they have remained in their holds: their might hath failed; they became as women: they have burned her dwellingplaces; her bars are broken.

  24. The LORD is righteous; for I have rebelled against his commandment: hear, I pray you, all people, and behold my sorrow: my virgins and my young men are gone into captivity.

  25. The young and the old lie on the ground in the streets: my virgins and my young men are fallen by the sword; thou hast slain them in the day of thine anger; thou hast killed, and not pitied.
