  1. I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.

  2. I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

  3. Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.

  10. ¶ As a mad man who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death,

  11. So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?

  12. ¶ Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross.

  13. ¶ He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him;

  14. When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart.

  15. Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation.

  16. To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.

  17. When ye come to appear before me, who hath required this at your hand, to tread my courts?

  18. Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting.

  19. Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them.

  20. And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.

  21. Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the LORD, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us?

  22. Surely your turning of things upside down shall be esteemed as the potter's clay: for shall the work say of him that made it, He made me not? or shall the thing framed say of him that framed it, He had no understanding?

  23. The vile person shall be no more called liberal, nor the churl said to be bountiful.

  24. For the vile person will speak villany, and his heart will work iniquity, to practise hypocrisy, and to utter error against the LORD, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.

  25. ¶ Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah, which swear by the name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness.
