  1. And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD.

  2. ¶ And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?

  3. Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?

  4. That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?

  5. And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.

  6. And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes:

  7. Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it.

  8. And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty's sake.

  9. And he said unto him, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there.

  10. And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty's sake.

  11. And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake.

  12. ¶ And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.

  13. And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.

  14. And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.

  15. And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.

  16. And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.

  17. And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.

  18. Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,

  19. If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;

  20. Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

  21. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

  22. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

  23. Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.
