  1. And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

  2. And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:

  3. And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.

  4. And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.

  5. Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

  6. And he said, Take the arrows. And he took them. And he said unto the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground. And he smote thrice, and stayed.

  7. And the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smitten five or six times; then hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it: whereas now thou shalt smite Syria but thrice.

  8. Behold the mounts, they are come unto the city to take it; and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans, that fight against it, because of the sword, and of the famine, and of the pestilence: and what thou hast spoken is come to pass; and, behold, thou seest it.

  9. And thou hast said unto me, O Lord GOD, Buy thee the field for money, and take witnesses; for the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

  10. ¶ And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him.

  11. And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.

  12. And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.

  13. And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.

  14. But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!

  15. Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,

  16. And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?

  17. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

  18. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

  19. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

  20. ¶ And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,

  21. Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.

  22. And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.

  23. Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.

  24. And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.

  25. Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
