  1. By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them which obeyed not, when she had receiued the spies peaceably.

  2. And what shall I more say? for the time would be too short for me to tell of Gedeon, of Barac, and of Sampson, and of Iephte, also of Dauid, and Samuel, and of the Prophets:

  3. Which through faith subdued kingdomes, wrought righteousnesse, obteined the promises, stopped the mouthes of lions,

  4. Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sworde, of weake were made strong, waxed valiant in battell, turned to flight the armies of the aliants.

  5. The women receiued their dead raised to life: other also were racked, and woulde not be deliuered, that they might receiue a better resurrection.

  6. And others haue bene tryed by mockings and scourgings, yea, moreouer by bondes and prisonment.

  7. They were stoned, they were hewen asunder, they were tempted, they were slaine with the sworde, they wandred vp and downe in sheepes skinnes, and in goates skinnes, being destitute, afflicted, and tormented:

  8. Whom the world was not worthie of: they wandered in wildernesses and mountaines, and dennes, and caues of the earth.

  9. And these all through faith obteined good report, and receiued not the promise,

  10. Let your conuersation be without couetousnesse, and be content with those things that ye haue, for he hath said,

  11. I will not faile thee, neither forsake thee:

  12. My brethren, haue not the faith of our glorious Lord Iesus Christ in respect of persons.

  13. For if there come into your company a man with a golde ring, and in goodly apparell, and there come in also a poore man in vile raiment,

  14. And ye haue a respect to him that weareth the gaie clothing; and say vnto him, Sit thou here in a goodly place, and say vnto the poore, Stand thou there, or sit here vnder my footestoole,

  15. Are yee not partiall in your selues, and are become iudges of euill thoughts?

  16. Hearken my beloued brethren, hath not God chosen the poore of this worlde, that they should be rich in faith, and heires of the kingdome which he promised to them that loue him?

  17. But ye haue despised the poore. Doe not the riche oppresse you by tyrannie, and doe not they drawe you before the iudgement seates?

  18. Doe nor they blaspheme the worthie Name after which yee be named?

  19. But if yee fulfill the royall Lawe according to the Scripture, which saith, Thou shalt loue thy neighbour as thy selfe, yee doe well.

  20. But if yee regarde the persons, yee commit sinne, and are rebuked of the Lawe, as transgressours.

  21. For whosoeuer shall keepe the whole Lawe, and yet faileth in one poynt, hee is guiltie of all.

  22. For he that saide, Thou shalt not commit adulterie, saide also, Thou shalt not kill. Nowe though thou doest none adulterie, yet if thou killest, thou art a transgressour of the Lawe.

  23. So speake ye, and so doe, as they that shall be iudged by the Lawe of libertie.

  24. For there shalbe condemnation merciles to him that sheweth not mercie, and mercie reioyceth against condemnation.

  25. What auaileth it, my brethren, though a man saith he hath faith, when he hath no workes? can that faith saue him?
