  1. My hand made all these things, and all these things were made, saith the Lord. But to whom shall I have respect, but to him that is poor and little, and of a contrite spirit, and that trembleth at my words?

  2. The wise men are confounded, they are dismayed, and taken: for they have cast away the word of the Lord, and there is no wisdom in them.

  6. Therefore thus saith the Lord against Joakim the king of Juda: He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out to the heat by day, and to the frost by night.

  7. And I will punish him, and his seed and his servants, for their iniquities, and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Juda all the evil that I have pronounced against them, but they have not heard.

  8. But I will tell thee what is set down in the scripture of truth: and none is my helper in all these things, but Michael your prince.

  9. Who answered and said: It is written, Not in bread alone doth man live, but in every word that proceedeth from the mouth of God.

  10. Jesus said to him: It is written again: Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

  11. Then Jesus saith to him: Begone, Satan: for it is written: The Lord thy God shalt thou adore, and him only shalt thou serve.

  12. Every one therefore that heareth these my words, and doth them, shall be likened to a wise man that built his house upon a rock,

  13. And Jesus answering, said to them: You err, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.

  14. And he said to them: Well do you make void the commandment of God, that you may keep your own tradition.

  15. For Moses said: Honour thy father and thy mother. And He that shall curse father or mother, dying let him die.

  16. But you say: If a man shall say to his father or mother, Corban (which is a gift) whatsoever is from me shall profit thee.

  17. And further you suffer him not to do any thing for his father or mother,

  18. Making void the word of God by your own tradition, which you have given forth. And many other such like things you do.

  19. And have you not read this scripture, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is made the head of the corner:

  20. Who answering, said to them: My mother and my brethren are they who hear the word of God and do it.

  21. But he said: Yea rather, blessed are they who hear the word of God and keep it.

  22. And Abraham said to him: They have Moses and the prophets. Let them hear them.

  23. And he said to him: If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they believe, if one rise again from the dead.

  24. And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded to them in all the scriptures the things that were concerning him.

  25. Then he opened their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures.
