But now he hath obtained a better ministry, by how much also he is a mediator of a better testament which is established on better promises.
For this is the testament which I will make to the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord: I will give my laws into their mind: and in their heart will I write them. And I will be their God: and they shall be my people.
Because I will be merciful to their iniquities: and their sins I will remember no more.
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering (for he is faithful that hath promised):
For patience is necessary for you: that, doing the will of God, you may receive the promise.
By faith he abode in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in cottages, with Isaac and Jacob, the co-heirs of the same promise.
By faith also Sara herself, being barren, received strength to conceive seed, even past the time of age: because she believed that he was faithful who had promised,
Who by faith conquered kingdoms, wrought justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for, when he hath been proved, he shall receive the crown of life which God hath promised to them that love him.
Hearken, my dearest brethren: Hath not God chosen the poor in this world, rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which God hath promised to them that love him?
By whom he hath given us most great and precious promises: that by these you may be made partakers of the divine nature: flying the corruption of that concupiscence which is in the world.
Knowing this first: That in the last days there shall come deceitful scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
Saying: Where is his promise or his coming? For since the time that the fathers slept, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
But we look for new heavens and a new earth according to his promises, in which justice dwelleth.
And this is the promise which he hath promised us, life everlasting.
