If my heart hath been deceived upon a woman, and if I have laid wait at my friend's door:

Let my wife be the harlot of another, and let other men lie with her.

For this is a heinous crime, and a most grievous iniquity.

It is a fire that devoureth even to destruction, and rooteth up all things that spring.

That they may keep thee from the evil woman, and from the flattering tongue of the stranger.

Let not thy heart covet her beauty, be not caught with her winks:

Now these things were done in a figure of us, that we should not covet evil things, as they also coveted.

Neither become ye idolaters, as some of them, as it is written: The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.

For there shall be a time when they will not endure sound doctrine but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers having itching ears:

And will indeed turn away their hearing from the truth, but will be turned unto fables.

But every man is tempted by his own concupiscence, being drawn away and allured.

Then, when concupiscence hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin. But sin, when it is completed, begetteth death.

From whence are wars and contentions among you? Are they not hence, from your concupiscences, which war in your members?

You covet, and have not: you kill and envy and cannot obtain. You contend and war, and you have not: because you ask not.

You ask and receive not: because you ask amiss, that you may consume it on your concupiscences.

For all that is in the world is the concupiscence of the flesh and the concupiscence of the eyes and the pride of life, which is not of the Father but is of the world.

And the world passeth away and the concupiscence thereof: but he that doth the will of God abideth for ever.
