  1. Thou hast despised my sanctuaries, and profaned my sabbaths.

  2. Slanderers have been in thee to shed blood, and they have eaten upon the mountains in thee, they have committed wickedness in the midst of thee.

  3. They have discovered the nakedness of their father in thee, they have humbled the uncleanness of the menstruous woman in thee.

  4. And every one hath committed abomination with his neighbour's wife, and the father in law hath wickedly defiled his daughter in law, the brother hath oppressed his sister the daughter of his father in thee.

  5. They have taken gifts in thee to shed blood: thou hast taken usury and increase, and hast covetously oppressed thy neighbours: and thou hast forgotten me, saith the Lord God.

  6. Her princes in the midst of her, are like wolves ravening the prey to shed blood, and to destroy souls, and to run after gains through covetousness.

  7. And her prophets have daubed them without tempering the mortar, seeing vain things, and divining lies unto them, saying: Thus saith the Lord God: when the Lord hath not spoken.

  8. The people of the land have used oppression, and committed robbery: they afflicted the needy and poor, and they oppressed the stranger by calumny without judgment.

  9. And I sought among them for a man that might set up a hedge, and stand in the gap before me in favour of the land, that I might not destroy it: and I found none.

  10. Hear the word of the Lord, ye children of Israel, for the Lord shall enter into judgment with the inhabitants of the land: for there is no truth, and there is no mercy, and there is no knowledge of God in the land.

  11. Cursing, and lying, and killing, and theft, and adultery, have overflowed, and blood hath touched blood.

  12. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,

  13. Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness.

  14. Being filled with all iniquity, malice, fornication, avarice, wickedness: full of envy, murder, contention, deceit, malignity: whisperers,

  15. Detractors, hateful to God, contumelious, proud, haughty, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

  16. Foolish, dissolute: without affection, without fidelity, without mercy.

  17. Who, having known the justice of God, did not understand that they who do such things, are worthy of death: and not only they that do them, but they also that consent to them that do them.

  18. Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:

  19. Their feet swift to shed blood:

  20. Destruction and misery in their ways:

  21. And the way of peace they have not known.

  22. There is no fear of God before their eyes.

  23. Now the works of the flesh are manifest: which are fornication, uncleanness, immodesty, luxury,

  24. Idolatry, witchcrafts, enmities, contentions, emulations, wraths, quarrels, dissensions, sects,

  25. Envies, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like. Of the which I foretell you, as I have foretold to you, that they who do such things shall not obtain the kingdom of God.
