The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: and the wise man will pacify it.

In the cheerfulness of the king's countenance is life: and his clemency is like the latter rain.

Appear not glorious before the king, and stand not in the place of great men.

For it is better that it should be said to thee: Come up hither; than that thou shouldst be humbled before the prince.

I observe the mouth of the king, and the commandments of the oath of God.

Be not hasty to depart from his face, and do not continue in an evil work: for he will do all that pleaseth him:

And his word is full of power: neither can any man say to him: Why dost thou so?

He said: Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying: What is thy opinion, Simon? The kings of the earth, of whom do they receive tribute or custom, of their own children, or of strangers?

And he said: Of strangers. Jesus said to him: Then the children are free.

But that we may not scandalize them, go to the sea, and cast in a hook: and that fish which shall first come up, take: and when thou hast opened it's mouth, thou shalt find a stater: take that, and give it to them for me and thee.

Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.

Tell us therefore what dost thou think? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

But Jesus knowing their wickedness, said: Why do you tempt me, ye hypocrites?

Shew me the coin of the tribute. And they offered him a penny.

And Jesus saith to them: Whose image and inscription is this?

They say to him: Caesar's. Then he saith to them: Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and to God, the things that are God's.

Who coming, say to him: Master, we know that thou art a true speaker and carest not for any man; for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth. Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar? Or shall we not give it?

Who knowing their wiliness, saith to them: Why tempt you me? Bring me a penny that I may see it.

And they brought it him. And he saith to them: Whose is this image and inscription? They say to him, Caesar's.

And Jesus answering, said to them: Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's and to God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at him.

Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or no?

But he, considering their guile, said to them: Why tempt you me?

Shew me a penny. Whose image and inscription hath it? They answering, said to him: Caesar's.

And he said to them: Render therefore to Caesar the things, that are Caesar's: and to God the things that are God's.

And when the town clerk had appeased the multitudes, he said: Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great Diana and of Jupiter's offspring?
