  1. Then he sings before men with these words: ‘I have sinned and perverted what was right; yet I did not get what I deserved.

  2. He redeemed my soul from going down to the Pit, and I will live to see the light.’

  3. Behold, all these things God does to a man, two or even three times,

  4. to bring back his soul from the Pit, that he may be enlightened with the light of life.

  5. There they cry out, but He does not answer, because of the pride of evil men.

  6. Surely God does not listen to empty pleas, and the Almighty does not take note of it.

  7. Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, or set foot on the path of sinners, or sit in the seat of mockers.

  8. But his delight is in the Law of the LORD, and on His law he meditates day and night.

  9. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, yielding its fruit in season, whose leaf does not wither, and who prospers in all he does.

  10. Not so the wicked! For they are like chaff driven off by the wind.

  11. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

  12. For the LORD guards the path of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

  13. The boastful cannot stand in Your presence; You hate all workers of iniquity.

  14. You destroy those who tell lies; the LORD abhors the man of bloodshed and deceit.

  15. For not a word they speak can be trusted; destruction lies within them. Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit.

  16. God is a righteous judge and a God who feels indignation each day.

  17. Behold, the wicked man travails with evil; he conceives trouble and births falsehood.

  18. He has dug a hole and hollowed it out; he has fallen into a pit of his own making.

  19. His trouble recoils on himself, and his violence falls on his own head.

  20. In his pride the wicked man does not seek Him; in all his schemes there is no God.

  21. He is secure in his ways at all times; Your lofty judgments are far from him; he sneers at all his foes.

  22. He says to himself, “I will not be moved; from age to age I am free of distress.”

  23. His mouth is full of cursing, deceit, and violence; trouble and malice are under his tongue.

  24. He lies in wait near the villages; in ambush he slays the innocent; his eyes watch in stealth for the helpless.

  25. He lies in wait like a lion in a thicket; he lurks to seize the oppressed; he catches the lowly in his net.
