  1. Pay close attention to everything I have said to you. You must not invoke the names of other gods; they must not be heard on your lips.

  2. Be careful not to make a treaty with the inhabitants of the land you are entering, lest they become a snare in your midst.

  3. Only be on your guard and diligently watch yourselves, so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen, and so that they do not slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and grandchildren.

  4. Be careful that you do not forget the covenant of the LORD your God that He made with you; do not make an idol for yourselves in the form of anything He has forbidden you.

  5. You are to diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God and the testimonies and statutes He has given you.

  6. But be careful that you are not enticed to turn aside to worship and bow down to other gods,

  7. Be careful not to offer your burnt offerings in just any place you see;

  8. Then Moses and the Levitical priests spoke to all Israel: “Be silent, O Israel, and listen! This day you have become the people of the LORD your God.

  9. But be very careful to observe the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you: to love the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, to keep His commandments, to hold fast to Him, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul.”

  10. Therefore watch yourselves carefully, that you love the LORD your God.

  11. And keep the charge of the LORD your God to walk in His ways and to keep His statutes, commandments, ordinances, and decrees, as is written in the Law of Moses, so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you turn,

  12. and so that the LORD may fulfill His promise to me: ‘If your descendants take heed to walk faithfully before Me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.’

  13. Therefore now, O LORD, God of Israel, keep for Your servant, my father David, what You promised when You said: ‘You will never fail to have a man to sit before Me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants guard their way to walk before Me as you have done.’

  14. And now, may the fear of the LORD be upon you. Be careful what you do, for with the LORD our God there is no injustice or partiality or bribery.”

  15. So we prayed to our God and posted a guard against them day and night.

  16. Be careful that no one lures you with riches; do not let a large bribe lead you astray.

  17. Can your wealth or all your mighty effort keep you from distress?

  18. Do not long for the night, when people vanish from their homes.

  19. Be careful not to turn to iniquity, for this you have preferred to affliction.

  20. I said, “I will watch my ways so that I will not sin with my tongue; I will guard my mouth with a muzzle as long as the wicked are present.”

  21. I lie awake; I am like a lone bird on a housetop.

  22. How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to Your word.

  23. Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips.

  24. Guard your heart with all diligence, for from it flow springs of life.

  25. Let your eyes look forward; fix your gaze straight ahead.
