  1. But he, being merciful, forgave theiriniquity, and destroyedthemnot: Yea, many a time turned he his anger away, And did not stir up all his wrath.

  2. And he remembered that they were but flesh, A wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.

  3. Many times did he deliver them; But they were rebellious in their counsel, And were brought low in their iniquity.

  4. Nevertheless he regarded their distress, When he heard their cry:

  5. And he remembered for them his covenant, And repented according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses.

  6. He made them also to be pitied Of all those that carried them captive.

  7. And therefore will Jehovah wait, that he may be gracious unto you; and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for Jehovah is a God of justice; blessed are all they that wait for him.

  8. For the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem; thou shalt weep no more; he will surely be gracious unto thee at the voice of thy cry; when he shall hear, he will answer thee.

  9. And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be hidden anymore, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers;

  10. and thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it; when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.

  11. For though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses.

  12. But as for me, I will look unto Jehovah; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.

  13. Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, Jehovah will be a light unto me.

  14. I will bear the indignation of Jehovah, because I have sinned against him, until he plead my cause, and execute judgment for me: he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness.

  15. Thus saith Jehovah: Though they be in full strength, and likewise many, even so shall they be cut down, and he shall pass away. Though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.
