  1. But he knoweth the way that I take; When he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

  13. When he slew them, then they inquired after him; And they returned and sought God earnestly.

  14. Before I was afflicted I went astray; But now I observe thy word.

  15. It is good for me that I have been afflicted; That I may learn thy statutes.

  16. The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold; But Jehovah trieth the hearts.

  17. It is better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart.

  18. Sorrow is better than laughter; for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made glad.

  19. and I will turn my hand upon thee, and thoroughly purge away thy dross, and will take away all thy tin;

  20. and I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called The city of righteousness, a faithful town.

  21. And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and they that are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again lean upon him that smote them, but shall lean upon Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.

  23. With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee earnestly: for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.

  24. Behold, I have refined thee, but not as silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.

  25. Thy habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, saith Jehovah.
