  1. Jesus answered, Neither did this man sin, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

  14. pursued, yet not forsaken; smitten down, yet not destroyed;

  15. always bearing about in the body the dying of Jesus, that the life also of Jesus may be manifested in our body.

  16. For we who live are always delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh.

  17. And by reason of the exceeding greatness of the revelations, that I should not be exalted overmuch, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, that I should not be exalted overmuch.

  18. Now I would have you know, brethren, that the thingswhich happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the progress of the gospel;

  19. wherein I suffer hardship unto bonds, as a malefactor; but the word of God is not bound.

  20. Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sake, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

  21. At my first defence no one took my part, but all forsook me: may it not be laid to their account.

  22. But the Lord stood by me, and strengthened me; that through me the message might be fully proclaimed, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.

  23. By faith Abraham, being tried, offered up Isaac: yea, he that had gladly received the promises was offering up his only begotten son;

  24. For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed good to them; but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness.

  25. All chastening seemeth for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yieldeth peaceable fruit unto them that have been exercised thereby, even the fruit of righteousness.
