Jesus answered: Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents; but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
His sisters therefore sent to him, saying: Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.
And Jesus hearing it, said to them: This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God: that the Son of God may be glorified by it.
Every branch in me that beareth not fruit, he will take away: and every one that beareth fruit, he will purge it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
Amen, amen, I say to thee, When thou wast younger, thou didst gird thyself and didst walk where thou wouldst. But when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee and lead thee whither thou wouldst not.
And this he said, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had said this, he saith to him: Follow me.
But Saul made havock of the church, entering in from house to house: and dragging away men and women, committed them to prison.
They therefore that were dispersed went about preaching the word of God.
Now they who had been dispersed by the persecution that arose on occasion of Stephen went about as far as Phenice and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the word to none, but to the Jews only.
But some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they were entered into Antioch, spoke also to the Greeks, preaching the Lord Jesus.
And the hand of he Lord was with them: and a great number believing, were converted to the Lord.
And not only so: but we glory also in tribulation, knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
In all things we suffer tribulation: but are not distressed. We are straitened: but are not destitute.
We suffer persecution: but are not forsaken. We are cast down: but we perish not.
Always bearing about in our body the mortification of Jesus, that the life also of Jesus may be made manifest in our bodies.
For we who live are always delivered unto death for Jesus' sake: that the life also of Jesus may be made manifest in our mortal flesh.
And lest the greatness of the revelations should exalt me, there was given me a sting of my flesh, an angel of Satan, to buffet me.
Now, brethren, I desire you should know that the things which have happened to me have fallen out rather to the furtherance of the gospel:
Wherein I labour even unto bands, as an evildoer. But the word of God is not bound.
Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus, with heavenly glory.
At my first answer, no man stood with me: but all forsook me. May it not be laid to their charge!

Now all chastisement for the present indeed seemeth not to bring with it joy, but sorrow: but afterwards it will yield to them that are exercised by it the most peaceable fruit of justice.
