  1. That disciple, therefore, whom Jesus was loving saith to Peter, `The Lord it is!' Simon Peter, therefore, having heard that it is the Lord, did gird on the outer coat, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea;

  8. He saith to him the third time, `Simon, son of Jonas, dost thou dearly love me?' Peter was grieved that he said to him the third time, `Dost thou dearly love me?' and he said to him, `Lord, thou hast known all things; thou dost know that I dearly love thee.' Jesus saith to him, `Feed my sheep;

  9. verily, verily, I say to thee, When thou wast younger, thou wast girding thyself and wast walking whither thou didst will, but when thou mayest be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another will gird thee, and shall carry thee whither thou dost not will;'

  10. and this he said, signifying by what death he shall glorify God; and having said this, he saith to him, `Be following me.'

  11. And Peter having turned about doth see the disciple whom Jesus was loving following, (who also reclined in the supper on his breast, and said, `Sir, who is he who is delivering thee up?')

  12. Peter having seen this one, saith to Jesus, `Lord, and what of this one?'

  13. Jesus saith to him, `If him I will to remain till I come, what--to thee? be thou following me.' This word, therefore, went forth to the brethren that that disciple doth not die,

  14. yet Jesus did not say to him, that he doth not die, but, `If him I will to remain till I come, what--to thee?'

  15. And there are also many other things--as many as Jesus did--which, if they may be written one by one, not even the world itself I think to have place for the books written. Amen.

  16. The former account, indeed, I made concerning all things, O Theophilus, that Jesus began both to do and to teach,

  17. till the day in which, having given command, through the Holy Spirit, to the apostles whom he did choose out, he was taken up,

  18. to whom also he did present himself alive after his suffering, in many certain proofs, through forty days being seen by them, and speaking the things concerning the reign of God.

  19. And being assembled together with them, he commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, `Ye did hear of me;

  20. They, therefore, indeed, having come together, were questioning him, saying, `Lord, dost thou at this time restore the reign to Israel?'

  21. and he said unto them, `It is not yours to know times or seasons that the Father did appoint in His own authority;

  22. but ye shall receive power at the coming of the Holy Spirit upon you, and ye shall be witnesses to me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and unto the end of the earth.'

  23. And these things having said--they beholding--he was taken up, and a cloud did receive him up from their sight;

  24. and as they were looking stedfastly to the heaven in his going on, then, lo, two men stood by them in white apparel,

  25. who also said, `Men, Galileans, why do ye stand gazing into the heaven? this Jesus who was received up from you into the heaven, shall so come in what manner ye saw him going on to the heaven.'
