  1. On the seventh day God finished his work which he had done; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had done.

  2. God blessed the seventh day, and made it holy, because he rested in it from all his work of creation which he had done.

  3. He said to them, “This is that which the LORD has spoken, ‘Tomorrow is a solemn rest, a holy Sabbath to the LORD. Bake that which you want to bake, and boil that which you want to boil; and all that remains over lay up for yourselves to be kept until the morning.’”

  4. On the seventh day, some of the people went out to gather, and they found none.

  5. “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

  6. You shall labor six days, and do all your work,

  7. but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. You shall not do any work in it, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your livestock, nor your stranger who is within your gates;

  8. for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day, and made it holy.

  9. “Six days you shall do your work, and on the seventh day you shall rest, that your ox and your donkey may have rest, and the son of your handmaid, and the alien may be refreshed.

  10. “Speak also to the children of Israel, saying, ‘Most certainly you shall keep my Sabbaths: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that you may know that I am the LORD who sanctifies you.

  11. You shall keep the Sabbath therefore; for it is holy to you. Everyone who profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.

  12. Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the LORD. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day shall surely be put to death.

  13. Therefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.

  14. It is a sign between me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.’”

  15. “‘Each one of you shall respect his mother and his father. You shall keep my Sabbaths. I am the LORD your God.

  16. “‘You shall keep my Sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary; I am the LORD.

  17. “‘Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation; you shall do no kind of work. It is a Sabbath to the LORD in all your dwellings.

  18. While the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering sticks on the Sabbath day.

  19. Those who found him gathering sticks brought him to Moses and Aaron, and to all the congregation.

  20. They put him in custody, because it had not been declared what should be done to him.

  21. The LORD said to Moses, “The man shall surely be put to death. All the congregation shall stone him with stones outside of the camp.”

  22. All the congregation brought him outside of the camp, and stoned him to death with stones, as the LORD commanded Moses.

  23. “‘On the Sabbath day, two male lambs a year old without defect, and two tenth parts of an efah of fine flour for a meal offering, mixed with oil, and its drink offering:

  24. but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God, in which you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your livestock, nor your stranger who is within your gates; that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you.

  25. You shall remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God brought you out of there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm. Therefore the LORD your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.
