  1. God, you have rejected us. You have broken us down. You have been angry. Restore us, again.

  2. You have made the land tremble. You have torn it. Mend its fractures, for it quakes.

  3. You have shown your people hard things. You have made us drink the wine that makes us stagger.

  4. Moreover, take up a lamentation for the princes of Israel,

  5. and say, What was your mother? A lioness: she couched among lions, in the midst of the young lions she nourished her cubs.

  6. She brought up one of her cubs: he became a young lion, and he learned to catch the prey; he devoured men.

  7. The nations also heard of him; he was taken in their pit; and they brought him with hooks to the land of Egypt.

  8. Now when she saw that she had waited, and her hope was lost, then she took another of her cubs, and made him a young lion.

  9. He went up and down among the lions; he became a young lion, and he learned to catch the prey; he devoured men.

  10. He knew their palaces, and laid waste their cities; and the land was desolate, and its fullness, because of the noise of his roaring.

  11. Then the nations set against him on every side from the provinces; and they spread their net over him; he was taken in their pit.

  12. They put him in a cage with hooks, and brought him to the king of Babylon; they brought him into strongholds, that his voice should no more be heard on the mountains of Israel.

  13. Your mother was like a vine, in your blood, planted by the waters: it was fruitful and full of branches by reason of many waters.

  14. It had strong rods for the scepters of those who bore rule, and their stature was exalted among the thick boughs, and they were seen in their height with the multitude of their branches.

  15. But it was plucked up in fury, it was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up its fruit: its strong rods were broken off and withered; the fire consumed them.

  16. Now it is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty land.

  17. Fire is gone out of the rods of its branches, it has devoured its fruit, so that there is in it no strong rod to be a scepter to rule. This is a lamentation, and shall be for a lamentation.

  18. Son of man, take up a lamentation over the king of Tyre, and tell him, Thus says the Lord GOD: You seal up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.

  19. You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you: ruby, topaz, emerald, chrysolite, onyx, jasper, sapphire, turquoise, and beryl. Gold work of tambourines and of pipes was in you. In the day that you were created they were prepared.

  20. You were the anointed cherub who covers: and I set you, so that you were on the holy mountain of God; you have walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.

  21. You were perfect in your ways from the day that you were created, until unrighteousness was found in you.

  22. By the abundance of your traffic they filled your midst with violence, and you have sinned: therefore I have cast you as profane out of the mountain of God; and I have destroyed you, covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.

  23. Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; you have corrupted your wisdom by reason of your brightness: I have cast you to the ground; I have laid you before kings, that they may see you.

  24. By the multitude of your iniquities, in the unrighteousness of your traffic, you have profaned your sanctuaries; therefore have I brought out a fire from your midst; it has devoured you, and I have turned you to ashes on the earth in the sight of all those who see you.

  25. All those who know you among the peoples shall be astonished at you: you have become a terror, and you shall nevermore have any being.
