  6. and she looked, and behold, the king stood by the pillar, as the tradition was, and the captains and the shofars by the king; and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew shofars. Then Athaliah tore her clothes, and cried, “Treason! Treason!”

  7. So all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet. Athaliah they had slain with the sword at the king’s house.

  8. Forty-two years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Athaliah the daughter of Omri.

  9. Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal seed of the house of Judah.

  10. But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king’s sons who were slain, and put him and his nurse in the bedroom. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest (for she was the sister of Ahaziah), hid him from Athaliah, so that she didn’t kill him.

  11. He was with them hidden in God’s house six years: and Athaliah reigned over the land.

  12. When Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, she came to the people into the LORD’s house:

  13. and she looked, and, behold, the king stood by his pillar at the entrance, and the captains and the shofars by the king; and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew shofars; the singers also played musical instruments, and led the singing of praise. Then Athaliah tore her clothes, and said, “Treason! treason!”

  14. So all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet. Athaliah they had slain with the sword.

  15. For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up God’s house; and they also gave all the dedicated things of the LORD’s house to the Baals.
