  1. Behold, O LORD; for I am in distress: my bowels are troubled; mine heart is turned within me; for I have grievously rebelled: abroad the sword bereaveth, at home there is as death.

  2. Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD.

  3. Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.

  4. ¶ We have transgressed and have rebelled: thou hast not pardoned.

  5. We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:

  6. Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.

  7. O Lord, to us belongeth confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee.

  8. To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him;

  9. Neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets.

  10. Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing, that they might not obey thy voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against him.

  11. And now, O Lord our God, that hast brought thy people forth out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and hast gotten thee renown, as at this day; we have sinned, we have done wickedly.

  12. And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!

  13. I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,

  14. And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.

  15. And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

  16. And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.

  17. For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

  18. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

  19. ¶ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

  20. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

  21. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
