  1. Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.

  2. Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

  3. Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child.

  4. If thou afflict them in any wise, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry;

  5. And my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

  6. ¶ Thou shalt not deliver unto his master the servant which is escaped from his master unto thee:

  7. He shall dwell with thee, even among you, in that place which he shall choose in one of thy gates, where it liketh him best: thou shalt not oppress him.

  8. ¶ Thou shalt not oppress an hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in thy land within thy gates:

  9. At his day thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor, and setteth his heart upon it: lest he cry against thee unto the LORD, and it be sin unto thee.

  10. And when we cried unto the LORD God of our fathers, the LORD heard our voice, and looked on our affliction, and our labour, and our oppression:

  11. And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.

  12. And spake to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke: my father also chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

  13. This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage of oppressors, which they shall receive of the Almighty.

  14. If his children be multiplied, it is for the sword: and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.

  15. Those that remain of him shall be buried in death: and his widows shall not weep.

  16. Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare raiment as the clay;

  17. He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.

  18. He buildeth his house as a moth, and as a booth that the keeper maketh.

  19. The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered: he openeth his eyes, and he is not.

  20. Terrors take hold on him as waters, a tempest stealeth him away in the night.

  21. The east wind carrieth him away, and he departeth: and as a storm hurleth him out of his place.

  22. For God shall cast upon him, and not spare: he would fain flee out of his hand.

  23. Men shall clap their hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.

  24. The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.

  25. LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear:
